I did not set out to do this.

They were not looking for a consultant or a presentation. They wanted someone outside the situation who would take the question seriously, ask the uncomfortable follow-up, and not be caught up in the politics of the answer.

I found that I enjoyed those conversations. I still do.

Part of what I bring is range. I understand business and technology from the inside. I know when a people problem needs clearer training, when a process needs tightening, when technology can help, and when a financial question changes the answer. When technology belongs in the solution, I can help put it to work.

I like getting my hands dirty. A useful answer has to survive contact with the work itself. The familiar answer is often the wrong one simply because it is familiar.

I am drawn to the work of sorting that out. Not to make a problem sound more complicated, but to find the part of it that can actually change the outcome.

The problems are rarely tidy at first. Someone says sales need to grow, but the product has not been approved by the people who make buying possible. An owner thinks the business needs another system, when the problem is a repeated habit nobody has made clear. A large project has everyone’s attention while a smaller decision, left alone, is quietly costing more.
